About

We invite you to explore the foundational principles that guide our faith and shape our community.

Rooted in history...

The first Catholic Church in Corrales was a mission built around 1750 near the Rio Grande River and was dedicated to the Holy Family. Priests from Sandia Pueblo would come to the mission to celebrate Mass and the Sacraments, up until 1857 when priests from Our Lady of Sorrows begin to minister. Unfortunately, this church was washed away in a flood in 1868. In 1869, the parishioners came together to build another mission, now known as the "Old Historic Church." The mission was dedicated to San Ysidro, the patron saint of farmers, which has continued to this day.

Our current church on Corrales Road was built in 1961-1962 by dedicated volunteers. It became an active parish serving the Village of Corrales in 1966. The church has since been remodeled and had major renovations including adding transepts, a narthex, and a gathering space.

History

San Ysidro

San Ysidro is the patron saint of our parish. San Ysidro was born in Madrid, Spain in 1070. He is the patron saint of farmers, the city of Madrid, and the Village of Corrales. He was a hired hand who had an extraordinary ability to pray directly to God who was so pleased that He sent an angel to San Ysidro's field, to do his work, freeing him to pray even more. He is said to have performed many miracles during his life and despite his own poverty, shared what little he had with the poor. He died on May 15, 1130 and was canonized in 1622. He was married to Maria Torribia, also honored as a saint under the name of Santa Maria de la Cabeza. Our parish fiesta is held every year on a weekend close to his May 15th feast day!

Where God Leads

Values & Pillars

Mercy

“In short, the mercy of God is not an abstract idea, but a concrete reality through which he reveals his love as that of a father or a mother, moved to the very depths out of love for their child” (Misericordiae Vultus, n. 6)-Pope Francis.

Grace

"The dignity of the human person requires the pursuit of the common good. Everyone should be concerned to create and support institutions that improve the conditions of human life" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 1926).

Charity & Justice

"No one may claim the name of Christian and be comfortable in the face of hunger, homelessness, insecurity, and injustice found in this country and the world" (U.S. Catholic Bishops, 1986, #27).
